I have a laptop that calls for a 45W charger and i am concerned that if i use a higher wattage that it will cause harm to my laptop.

Is there a pin in the center of the jack???

Yes the pin is there and the 90w and the 45w chargers match up.

They are SMART adapters and you can us the 90w  in the 45w unit.

 

The way no to go is trying to use a 45w on a 90w unit.
