Proliant DL360 G7
Microsoft Windows Server 2016

Working in a very large academic institution frequently means that one department's old equipment becomes another department's new, sparkley upgrades.   Thus was the case when I was given 3 Proliant DL360 G7 servers from another department.   I did not care a wit that they were old or that the warranty had expired - for our purposes - the abilities of these servers far exceeded our needs.   I tried to put a new install of Windows 2016 on these.  The installation did not recognize the on-board RAID card, so I dutifully went to the HP support page to download the driver.   I found it without too much effort.

.... and then the shock hit....

I was dumbfounded when I found out that I had to have a "current contract" in order to get a driver.
A contract for a DRIVER?    Are you fracking kidding me?

What penny pinching buearocrat came up with this assinine policy?

It not only made me glad I have never spent real money on HP equipment - it pretty much guarantees I never will in the future.
