Deskjet 1510 series wont allow me to set preferences to black ink only

HP Recommended
HP Deskjet 1510
Microsoft Windows XP (64-bit)

My advanced preferences will allow me to change to black ink only, but when I close the window and print, it is automatically changed back to print in grayscale:  off.

What do I do?  My printer was printing without problems a couple of days ago.

Good Day.  Thank you for posting your query in the HP community.  I read the post regarding assistance with printing in black. I will be delighted to assist you here.

Superb description and spectacular troubleshooting and commendable diagnosis of the issue before posting. Kudos to you for that. 🙂

For better clarity and to assist you better I would require more information regarding this:

  • Did this happen after software change?
  • Did you try performing a system restore to an earlier time and check?

For now, try these steps:

  • Please perform a system restore by following instructions from this link: http://hp.care/2D3Ebre   and follow the option “Restoring Windows to a previous point”
  • Now check if it fixes the issue.
  • If it does not then try to install the Windows built-in drivers by following instructions from this link: http://hp.care/2o3acvH  (HP Printers - Installing and Using the Windows Built-in Print Driver)
  • This should resolve the issue for you.
  • For further assistance on how to print in black and change the printer settings check this link out: http://hp.care/2D3PNKW (HP Inkjet Printers - Printing with Black Ink Only (Windows))

Please perform all these steps patiently as it is critical to resolving the issue. It will definitely fix the issue for you.
