DesignJet Z2100
macOS 10.12 Sierra

Hi All,

I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction to solving an issue with my HP Designjet Z2100. Recently the belt snapped on the printer. I have now replaced the belt, after it being out of service for a couple of months, and ran some test prints and calibrations. The colours seemed a bit washed out so I checked if I had the latest firmware. The firmware on the system was TR8-TR_9.0.0.5. After a quick search on the hp site i found a later firmware update, TR8-TR_12_00_00-1.

I've done this before so I know what I'm doing when it comes to updating the firmware. Opened Utilities, Started the Firmware update process, chose the correct file that I had downloaded and unzipped, then let the printer install. After about 30 minutes, I checked the printer and it had the message:

08:11

Restart the printer. If the problem persists, call support.

As the printer was working fine before I tried updateing the firmware, I presume that this is the problem. Is there any way that I can replace the firmware, now that it won't restart? I want to try and revert back to the previous version as the printer obviously doesn't like the latest version.

I've also tried:

• Turning off and on (unplugging)

• Turning off and on in quick succession

• Removing, cleaning and re-installing the fromatting board

• Removing and reseating the LCD display ribbon

The printer is a few years old now and it belongs to the company that I work for and they say they don't want the cost off calling out an engineer so I'm trying to fix it myself with littlest cost possible. So any help on this would be much appreciated.

Many thanks

Paul

do not buy used formatter or hd  & they were not interchangeable. I bought an used formatter with hd & never  worked.

maybe virgen new hd ok.

Also turn off from the back & press   Up    OK    turn on power,    when letters appear & release finger &  go to     factory setup mode.

no need leave few days & mine came back to life about 2 hours. Prior I unplugged the formatter few times also.

No garrantee & hope miracle comes.

Few years back, My Z2100 44" had that error right after I updated firmware. Then I kept trying without luck. then I left it

on & miraclely it restarted & booted it up fully.

Try it & keep your fingers, toes crossed.

good luck

Thanks jason, I might just leave it for a few days then. I've been looking at how much a new formatter board would cost, £150 refurbed on ebay, but I don't think the bosses would even bother as we don't use the printer that much. I'll take your advice and just leave it switched on and see if that does anything.

Thanks again!

Hi Jason,

I've just tried the Up+OK and power on to try and enable factory settings but all I get is 0% on the progress bar and then the error code pops up.

I'm thinking the worst now and the format board has gone, or something, if its not even registering and booting up. The annoying thing is that all this happened because of a firmware update, very frustrating

Thanks for all your advice on this Jason.

Yesterday I switched the printer off, then switched it on again pressing the up+ok buttons, but it didn't work. So, I removed the display panel and opened it up. Once I had opened it up I saw a reset button on the circuit board of the display.

I pressed reset on the board, put it back together and put it back on to the printer, did a restart and pressed the up+ok again. The same thing happened, where it wasn't doing anything whilst the buttons were depressed, I was holding them down for more than 5 seconds (more like 30). So, I just left the printer rather bemused and deflated.

After about 30 minutes I returned to the printer and was astounded by what I saw on the display. It was the factory setting mode!!!! I can't tell you how happy I was to see that. I scrolled through the various checks and ran them one by one, all were ok.

I then, very reluctantly, restarted the printer. For the first 20 seconds my heart sank as it looked like it was stuck on 0% on the progress bar again; when all of a sudden the hp logo appeared and it booted up perfectly. I've no installed the latest firmware update and it went on fine this time, so our printer is now up and running again  all we need now is a new set of inks.

pleased to learn that your printer came back to life. do not do anymore update & yours already updated.

Myself learned the hard way, bought used hd, even whole 44" z2100 printer, in order to make it work. Now I still

have the whole printer & hd. collecting dusts.

I like this board  & always learn something new.

adios
