Plotter plots fine, printheads all seem aligned, but every 10-12" it seems the roll feed advances the paper too far and we get a light / blank strip across the drawing or we get double text. Attached are some of the diagnostic prints we ran. I have looked for a service technician in our area to come and take a look, but it doesn't look as if we have someone with a reasonable distance.
Thank you in advance.

Hi,
Please check the below link service manual: http://envsci.rutgers.edu/apps/compserv/HP_DesignJet_800_Printer-42.pdf
At first align the printheads and then try check again. If not ok, please clean the Encoder Strip and all printheads if problem remain same you may clean also Encoder Disk. Most of time Encoder will make a problem (Their have some dust) or Transmission Gear (P/N: C7769-60408).
I hope that answers your concern adequately. Let me know!
Good luck

Rasheddul is correct.
i had this issue recently.
I removed the encoder disk sensor (this is for paper feed and is on left side of print platen area).
I cleaned the sensor, I blew dust out from the area and did my best to clean the encoder disk while turning the drive roller.
I put all back together and printed the same file and all was good.
Cheers and Good luck,
RoyK

rasheddul / Roy. I believe this is an issue with the encoder disk as you suggest. Is there any easy way to get to the encoder disk? After reading up on things, it looks like the printer needs to be almost completely dismantled and the roller removed to get to it. Can we get in to clean simply by removing that small cover plate to the left of the platen.
Thanks.

Their no easy way to clean the encoder disk. You just download the service manual as my previous post link and check the process for reassembled process.
I hope you may do that job with successful.

We removed the small cover plate at the left of the platen and then removed the small circuit board with the encoder disk reader attached to it. We then had enough room to get a q-tip with isopropyl alcohol in to clean the encoder disk. It didn't seem that dirty, but after reassembly, works like a charm.
Thanks.

Hi,
Please dont use any arocol or any cleaner or any chemical, you just use drinking water with white cloth. Then check your print quality.
