HP deskjet 6980 print

HP Recommended
HP deskjet 6980
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have my printer hooked up to two computers. One works fine. The other,  which I just connected,( replacement computer for a lemon), is printing out gibberish. One or two characters at a time at the top of the page, even test page.  Trouble shoot did not help. Have both hooked up same way.  Printer worked fine on the computer I exchanged.

Thank you for posting on HP Forums,

Flower_Bud is at your service.

As I understand, your printer is printing gibberish from one of your Computer.

No worries, as I'll be glad to help you, that said, I'll need a few more details to dissect your concern & provide an accurate solution:

When was the last time it worked fine?

Have you made any hardware/software changes?

Is it printing same from all the applications?

Let's try these troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue:

Download and Run HP Print and Scan Doctor:

Root level uninstall and reinstall printer drivers:

  • Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP DeskJet printer entries and uninstall them.
  • Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
  • Then press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" and press enter.
  • Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
  • Again, go to run window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.

To reinstall, click here.

Let me know how that pans out
