The printer supports 11x17 inch paper.

Places to check...

➡️  If the paper size is not selectable from the standard paper size list, create a Custom Paper Size form.

The printer and the printer software support the creation of Custom Paper Sizes.

HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Wide Format All-in-One series Full Feature Software and Drivers

and

Creating Custom Paper Sizes

➡️  What software are you using?

If the software you are using does not support the use of Custom Paper Size forms, try a different software to view / create / submit your job to the printer.

➡️  What are your driver settings?

For example, what are the choices for

Source (tray)

Paper Size

Media type

Duplex

Borderless

Assuming the size is supported, try changing the Media type or another setting in combination.

For example,

  • The 11x17 inch size might be supported in Plain Paper (for example) but perhaps not in Media type Photo Paper.
  • Borderless and Duplex, where supported, are not usually supported on all Paper Sizes.

➡️  Have you printed on this paper size previously?  That is, did it used to work and has the printer recently stopped printing on this size?

If the size worked in the past, and no longer works, then "something" has changed.  If the settings are correct and the job does not print, consider completely removing the printer software and reinstalling a fresh copy.

Note that the clean installation (after completely removing the printer software) is not normally necessary.  The procedure might help when nothing else does so.

  • Uninstall all the printer software from Programs and Features
  • Restart the computer and log in
  • Open Devices and Printers - Right-Click and Remove any remaining instances of the printer in Devices and Printers.
  • Delete the "bits" of the printer software in the user account that are not typically removed with a regular "uninstall" of the printer software. **
  • Restart the computer and log in
  • Start over with a fresh download and installation of the HP Easy Start Printer Setup Software
  • When asked which software to install (during the installation procedure), select to install the "Full Driver" (the wording may vary)
  • After the software is installed, Restart the computer and log in

** Uninstall - Printer Software – Lurking in the User Account **

Check / Verify:  Printer related files and folders are stored in the User AppData hierarchy.  If you have had trouble getting the printer to work, complete this step to delete printer files from the Temp folder and the Local\HP folder

Clear Temp Folder in AppData

Method One

Open File Explorer > Navigate to C:\Users\YourAccount\AppData\Local\Temp

OR

Method Two

Windows key + X + R (Run command) > type %temp%

Delete the files in the Temp folder (It is expected that some files cannot be deleted, ignore these)

Restart the computer and log in

Clear HP Printer mention in AppData\Local\HP

Open File Explorer > Navigate to C:\Users\YourAccount\AppData\Local\HP

Remove / Delete any folder named for the printer you wish to remove

11x17 is supported on this printer and if you are not able to print that size you should check which driver installed. Use the actual HP driver and not a Windows V4 driver.
