Setup print cartridges for new print head not working

HP Recommended
DesignJet T520
macOS 10.12 Sierra

Some history: We were having an issue with our printhead, so I contacted support and after an hour and a half on the phone with them they sent us out a new print head w/setup cartriges.

I installed the new print head and new cartridges, but I am getting an error message that says: "Not enough ink to complete startup. Cartritges used during initilization must be NEW."

These are for sure the new cartriges. I've tried cleaning the connection points on all the cartriges and where they connect with the printhead, and nothing changes. I have unplugged the printer, and nothing changes.

Is there a way to bypass this error message? Or reset the printer so the OS isn't stuck in this confused state? The cartriges ARE new. I'm not sure what else to do and I don't have another hour and a half to jump through hoops with support on the phone.

I seen this error countless times on my Z3100, Z3200. Try turn your printer off & on again....

if nothing work, swap the bottom part of cartridge with old one.

Sound stupid & funny,  but might  work.

Yesterday I finished repaired  a Z3200 44" & printer flashing for light gray cartridge, old one had about quarter.
Then I opened a brand new one & printer said   " incompatible  ink "   ,  I pulled it up & down few times,
same error .  then I shutt off the  printer, then error disappeared & i was able to continue & finish all.

Be patience...

Thank you for the reply. I don't think patience is going to fix this for me. 🙂

This particular model's cartriges don't have bottom parts I can swap, and I have tried the other things you've mentioned.

I was hoping someone could help me reset the printer to factory setup to get out of this error loop.

There are no visible ink tubes on the DesignJet T520.

Jason,

This plotter is not the same as the ones you are used to. It has one printhead for all colors and ink cartridges that feed it.

User,

I would contact hp support again and tell them the issue and see if they can reslove the issue or send you replacement cartridges.

All Z model plotters have ink tubes since you have ink tanks on the sides and the ink has to get from the tanks to the printheads. With the T520 the ink tanks (cartridges) mount on the top of the printhead like standard inkjet printers and move with the carriage as it goes from side to side.
