Is there a way to switch back and forth between rool feed and sheet tray from application without having to manually feed or "un-feed" roll ?

Unfotunately no, this is not an option on this model.

That's surprising they would go to the expense of adding a feature of such limited use. Even their cheap printers allow switching paper sizes through applications via the tray.

Hi,

 

Some times its unload the roll paper from the paper path but it'sdepands on the previous printing commands. If you un-suddenly command on multi-sheet, that time roll paper is un-loaded.

 

So, I am request to you please carefully check the paper source and everytime select the paper source and paper type. So it will reduce the problem.

 

As mention Mike comments is correct 100%.
