Have you reseated the cable on the front panel?

I don't work for HP....I just repair their printers.

Good idea! In fact I did that first. Easiest and fastest possible solution.

Thanks,

Larry.

Is it doing the exact same thing it was doing when the error first showed up?  Or is the new HD shortening the boot time or lengthening it?  Any changes at all with the new HD?

You do not "Know" that the old Hard Drive is bad since it may be formatted in a way that is not compatible with whatever OS you tested it with.

I recommend reinstalling it.

The times I've worked on that error it has usually been a Formatter Problem.

You don't know the drive is defective since you tested it in a PC, and I don't know if it is formatted in a way that a PC would understand.

Tabcom is reputable, but I would contact:

Well, while there's always the chance that the method I used it's been pretty good at seeing disks with many different types of formatting.

The tool is MiniTool Partition Wizard. Since the disk is in a different format I couldn't read it this tool should at least be able find it. I couldn't hear the disk spinning (yes, the disk could be very quiet) and this tool did show it as bad.

But, you do make a good suggestion that I should try reinstalling it and seeing if the printer behaves differently.

Thanks!

With PostScript DesignJets the recommendation is to change parts one at a time, if a part does not fix the machine reinstall it.

If you change two serialized parts at once you might end up with errors due to the serial number mismatch.

Lat time I had a Mismatch  issue the machine was in warranty, which was a good thing, when I couldn't get it going, (and I tried several times, each time with more "New" parts), HP 2LS sent in a HP Badged Tech with parts and a special utility to "Reserialize" the parts.

I even had a second Tech along for one of the calls and we could not get the machine to recover from the mismatch.

I've also heard that it may be good to update the firmware on the printer. Even if I have the current version reinstalling it may help. But, more importantly, it likely won't hurt 😁.

But, I can't find the firmware on the HP support page.

Does anyone know where I can download the latest firmware file?

Thanks again!

Larry.

UPDATE: Still not working.

To answer the question from "D Hook," the printer is still behaving exactly as it did when I first got it. The behavior is exactly the same with either of the disks (original and new replacement).

When I turn it on the display shows a progress bar and it sits at 0% for a bit and then goes to the error screen.

One idea that Tom Bush suggested is this:

  1. Download firmware to a blank USB stick from hp.com.
  2. Install the USB stick into the USB slot on the formatter board.
  3. Turn on the printer
  4. The printer may initialize the first time. If it doesn’t
  5. Reboot several times. If that fails

I had to setup some adapters since my thumb drives are all USB-A connectors and the USB port on the formatter board is USB-B. I tried this and ever after a few reboots nothing happened. I know that often these processes require the USB thumb drive to have a specific format. I use exFAT and had no luck.

Anyone know if this process should work and if the thumb drive format matters?

Another quick question for everyone. On the formatter board is a small button. Does anyone know what this button is for? See the circled bit at the bottom of this picture.

Formatter_Board-Switch.jpg

Seems odd since this button can't be pressed while it's installed in the printer. I would guess it would then only be useful for testing in some bench top testing rig.

Thanks again!

Larry.
