I relpaced the black ink cartridge with a new HP 62 cartridge and I get a message to remove and reinstall this does not work. I have read the suggestion in other threads to return the cartridge to the store and try another cartridge, this is not and acceptiable response.  Powering off and on doesn't work is there a way for my HP printer to recognise an HP cartridge?

Hi @cmerks,

Good Day.  A warm welcome to the HP community. I reviewed the post regarding printing issues with the computer. I will be delighted to assist you here.

Superb description, brilliant troubleshooting and terrific observations made before posting. Kudos to you for that. Smiley Happy

I would require more information to assist you better.

  • Does it copy in black and color directly from the printer without any communication from the computer?
  • Did you try with a different set of cartridges?
  • Please help me with the operating system used on the computer?

For a start please perform these steps.

  • Please connect the printer directly to the wall outlet.
  • Then check if the packing material from the cartridge has been removed.
  • Remove and reinstall the cartridge.
  • Then try to make a couple copies in black directly from the printer without any communication from the computer.
  • If it copies fine then please uninstall and reinstall the printer software.
  • If it does not copy please perform the steps from the document given below.
  • Then try to perform the steps from the document for Black not being printed.
  • Also. perform all the troubleshooting steps from this document for missing cartridge or cartridge not found
  • Please perform all the steps patiently to try and resolve the issue.

If it still does not work, the cartridge will need to be replaced as it could be faulty.

please contact HP technical support via this link:  http://h22207.www2.hp.com/us-en/?openCLC=true
