Is it possible to configure a Polycom VVX 500 with the Lync Server, if I only have my Lync login information and no admin rights to the Lync Server?
My company does not need a VPN to connect with Lync from home. Just install Lync and enter login information.
Will the phone work the same way?

You arent talking about Microsoft Lync are you? That thing seemed to be heavy with encumbrance. The DRM, plus the sheer number of undocumented bugs and inconsistencies, I dont know if we could really cover it with a few paragraphs.
Have you tried the Asterisk open source telephony platform?
Asterisk runs on Linux, which means:
1) no viruses
2) its free
3) the OS system code is allowed to be checked for errors
4) the PBX program code is allowed to be checked for errors
5) typically one OS installer disk, instead of the many different types of incompatible Windows disks and codes
6) full support forums
😎 actual documentation, as opposed to the sparse Microsoft help pages
9) Unix-type operating systems runs of 95% of the world's servers
10) no drm to entangle your IT support staff
this is my good deed for today

Hello koutsoudis,
welcome to the Polycom Community.
To answer your original question the VVX500 with its currently available Software UCS 4.0.2 Rev B is not capable to register via Username / Password only.
The new UCS 4.1.0 Release should be available shortly but until then I am unable to comment on the new features.
Please ensure to provide some feedback if this reply has helped you so other users can profit from your experience.
Best Regards
