I have an HP 24fw 24-inch Display. I would like to know if it has sound capability. Thanks.

I checked several spec pages for that model.  No mention of audio

The model I bought recently is described by the retailer as 24FW with audio and it says so on the box:

https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing/pc-monitors/pc-monitors/hp-24fw-with-audio-full-hd-24-ips-lc...

The ad says 'built-in speakers' but I have not been able to get sound out of it and your kind reply to the post confirms what another HP community contributor has posted, namely that there is no mention in the specs, although that looks like it refers to another, cheaper, model which does not have the word 'audio' in its name.

A bit more googling and I have now found the user manual for this model:

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c06220135

It confirms there are built-in speakers on this model, and shows the 2 inputs, one is audio in, the other audio out. I connected a cable from the headphone socket on my laptop to the audio in on the monitor but still no sound. I checked all the volume controls I could find but none were muted, so I still have the issue. At least I have confirmation that this model has speakers.

Check the Device Manager to ascertain if the audio hardware is working (no yellow splotch on the device manager listing).  Right click on the Windows icon in the taskbar at the lower left --> Device Manager, expand the Sound and Video listing.

Hi Ken_K5RG

I found the solution before seeing your post. On the monitor's menu, I found an option I had not seen before:

Management / Audio Control / Select PC Analog Audio

This works using a mini-jack to mini-jack cable between the monitor and my Surface Pro 4 headphone socket.

I am sure this menu option had been greyed out before, even when I had the mini-jack cable connected.

BTW I could not see the device under Device Manager/Audio ..., just the headphones.

Thank you for trying to help. It's appreciated.
