External Speakers Don't Work

HP Recommended
HP Pavillion HPE (h8-1380t)
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Hi!

I need your help with sound.

SYSTEM

HP Pavillion HPE (h8-1380t) running under Windows 7 Pro (64 bit).

SOUND COMPONENTS

I have a Plantonics headset plugged to the top, I have a set of Altec speakers plugged to the rear line-out/headphone port (green), and I have a Blue mike plugged to a USB port.

SETTINGS

The volume mixer shows three devices, which are set to high:

(1) Speakers/Headphones (IDT High Definition Audio CODEC)

(2) Communications Headphones (IDT High Definition Audio CODEC)Digital

(3) Output (S/PDIF) ((IDT High Definition Audio CODEC)

The Control Panel's Sound window shows the same three playback devices as being connected. Only the Speakers/Headphones and the Communications Headphones (IDT High Definition Audio CODEC)Digital are flagged green.

In the Control Panel > Hardware and Sound, there is a Beats Audio icon but I have no idea what it does

FUNCTIONALITY

When I use Skype, the headset works. When I play a YouTube video, I hear the sound thru the headset. And, when I use Audacity for recording, the mike works and I play it back and hear the sound thru the headset. The speakers do not work at all!

How do I make the speakers to work?

Thank you.

Hi @DrTRod,

Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues with help from the community! I came across your post and wanted to assist you. I understand you are having issues with the external speakers not working on your HP desktop. Don't worry as I have a few suggestions which should help you resolve this issue.

In this scenario, I see you have both headphone and speakers both connected to the computer, In order to have a sound from the speakers, I would suggest here is to disconnect the headphone cable and then check if you are able to hear sound from the speakers.

Ideally you can hear sound from headphone or speakers but not at the same time.

For more assistance, please follow the steps suggested in the support document for - HP Desktop PCs - Connecting Speakers or Headphones (Windows 7)

I hope this helps. Let me know how it goes for further assistance.

Keep me posted,

If the information I've provided was helpful,

Good Luck.
