HP E27m G4 QHD USB-C Conferencing Monitor
Microsoft Windows 11

Dear all,

I recently bought a HP E27m G4  monitor. While the display is great, I have issue with using the built-in  microphone - there are some random disconnects during Teams call. It works for several minutes and then suddenly disconnects. I am running Windows 11, the newest updates installed, firmware of monitor is up-to-date.

Thanks a lot for your help and any advice.

Kind regards

Jan

Hi @JanSedivy,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to assist you.

I understand you're experiencing an issue with the in-built microphone on your monitor.

I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused, I'm here to help you today.

Here are steps to troubleshoot and resolve the problem:

1. Check Microphone Settings

  • Go to Settings > System > Sound > Input and ensure the HP E27m G4 microphone is selected as the default input device.
  • Test the microphone in the settings to ensure it works consistently.

2. Teams App Settings

  • In Microsoft Teams, navigate to Settings > Devices, and confirm that the HP E27m G4 microphone is selected as the audio input.
  • If you see multiple microphone options for the monitor, ensure you pick the correct one.

3. Power Settings for USB Devices

Random disconnects could be due to USB power-saving settings:

  • Open Device Manager (press Win + X > Device Manager).
  • Locate your monitor under Audio inputs and outputs or Universal Serial Bus controllers.
  • Right-click the device, select Properties, go to the Power Management tab, and uncheck Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.

4. Update Audio Drivers

  • In Device Manager, find the monitor’s microphone under Audio inputs and outputs.
  • Right-click it, select Update driver, and choose Search automatically for updated drivers.

5. Test on Another Application

  • Use the microphone in another app like Zoom or Skype to confirm if the issue is isolated to Teams.

6. USB-C or HDMI Connection Stability

Since the monitor's microphone connects through USB-C or HDMI with USB passthrough:

  • Ensure the cable is securely connected.
  • Try using a different USB-C or HDMI cable.
  • If connected via USB-C, confirm that all USB ports on the monitor and laptop are functioning correctly.

7. Reinstall Teams

  • Sometimes, Teams-specific issues can be resolved by reinstalling the app or clearing the Teams cache.
    1. Close Teams completely.
    2. Navigate to C:\Users\<Your Username>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Teams.
    3. Delete all files in this folder.
    4. Restart Teams and log in again.

Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved and if you feel this reply was helpful click “Yes”.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a great day ahead!
