Hi there

I've recently purchased a HP headset which come with built-in microphone, standard USB and 2 * 3.5mm connectors. When I connect it to the laptop, absolutely nothing happens besides the indication of power up on the headset (background LEDs on). The headset is not being detected by the computer, and I can't hear any sound. I've tried all the USB ports of my laptop, the issue persists. I also tried on a Dell desktop computer, all the same.

I've tried troubleshooting as suggested on the settings, but the issue is still there. I only hear the sound when I connect the headset using the 3.5 mm connector.

Could someone please help solving this issue? I'm available to supply any further information about it.

Thanks in advance

@Nyavotso, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your HP Headset!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand that your HP headset is not being detected when connected via USB, but it works when using the 3.5mm connector. Let's go through some troubleshooting steps to resolve this issue.

Check Device Manager

  1. Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
  2. Expand Sound, video and game controllers and Universal Serial Bus controllers.
  3. Look for any entries related to your headset. If you see any with a yellow triangle or "Unknown Device," right-click and select Update driver.

Check Sound Settings

  1. Right-click the sound icon in the taskbar and select Sounds.
  2. Go to the Playback tab and check if your headset appears.
  3. If it's listed but disabled, right-click it and select Enable and Set as Default Device.
  4. Go to the Recording tab and do the same for the microphone.

Try a Different USB Mode

  • If your headset has a switch to change between USB and 3.5mm mode, ensure it is set to USB.

Reinstall Audio Drivers

  1. In Device Manager, right-click your audio drivers under Sound, video and game controllers.
  2. Select Uninstall device and restart your PC. Windows should reinstall the correct drivers automatically.
  3. You can also visit HP official website to manually download and install the latest drivers for your headset.

Try a Different USB Port or Cable

  • Since the issue persists across different devices, test the headset on another laptop.
  • If the USB cable is detachable, try using another USB cable.

If none of these steps work, let me know what you’ve tried, and we’ll explore further solutions.

Looking forward to your update!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
