Headphones and Speakers working at the same time
02-03-2018 05:59 PM

Hey, I have been trying to solve the problem of my PC speakers working at the same time as my headphones and I would only like to have audio come out of my headphones only when I have plugged them in. I have read other replys to this same issue, however none of the solutions has worked, so I hope that you could possibly solve or find a solution for my problem.
Thank You.

Welcome to the HP Forums, this is a great location to get assistance! I read your post and see that both headphones and speakers work at the same time. I would like to help you resolve this issue.
However, I will need a few details to provide an accurate solution,
- When did this issue start?
- Did you do any hardware or software changes?
Meanwhile
Check the 'Disable front panel jack detection' option:
-
Double-click on the Realtek HD Audio manager system tray icon
-
Click on small folder icon
-
Check that the 'Disable front panel jack detection' tick box is unticked.
-
Now insert the jack plug of either a microphone or headphones into the corresponding front panel socket of your computer.
-
If you now see the message 'Information: A jack has been plugged in', then you do not need to change this setting as your system has an HDA compatible front panel.
-
If you do not see this message, then click on the small folder icon again and tick the 'Disable front panel jack detection' check box.
If any of the above options are unavailable, install the latest drivers for you audio adapter and then try again: Click here for the drivers
Let me know how it goes.
Cheers.

I tried following your instructions, however still did not work, also I have an HP ENVY23 ALL IN ONE, and i can not find the Realtek HD Audio drive or document. Could you help me with this or tell me a different solution please. Also i tried downloading a drive from the HP website but did not know which one was suitable for my computer.

Thanks for the reply.
I appreciate your time and effort.
I had to take some time off and research on your concern,
Follow the below steps to update the drivers,
- Select IDT High Definition Audio CODEC on Device Manager.
Select Driver tab.
Click Update Driver... button.
Select -> Browse my computer for driver software.
Select -> Let me pickup a list of device drivers on my computer.
Select High Definition Audio Device (Not IDT High Def... this is important.) and click Next. Appears Warning message, but reply Yes.
Windows has successfully update your driver software.
- Restart your computer.
Also check the below steps:
When the computer is viewed from behind, the speaker output jack on your Envy is probably near the lower-right corner. It looks just like your headphone output, but has a little icon that looks a little bit like this:
(((.)))
Let me know if that helps.
Cheers.
