Prodesk 400 G4
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi, I just purchased a Prodesk 400 G4 and I am appalled with the sound quality. No bass, distorted sounds and a very thinny tone.

I purchased this to replace a 10 year (yes, ten YEARS) old PC with an onboard soundcard and it sounded great. I don't understand this and refuse to admit this is a hardware problem.

Things I tried:
Checked cables and speakers

Checked if I was using the correct 3,5 output jack connector (and not the input one)
Updated Windows
Updated Drivers (from HP and from Conexant's website)

Disabling the audio enhancements on the Controller's properties/options
Disabling the Multiple Transmission on the HP Audio Controls

Using headphones, different speakers, internal Prodesk speaker and my Samsung monitor's speakers, all to the same horrible results.

Please help me, I use this as a audio/mediacenter and I am not happy with this at all.

Thank you in advance
J

I'm having the exact same issue with the exact same setup. Choppy sound, almost like the volume is going up and down several times per second. Help!

Rickbarb: although this is no solution from HP, I ended up buying a cheap (6€) USB to 3.5 jack dongle that bypasses the problem.

I have it worked as follow:

-> open Windows 10 Device Manager

-> find the Conexant HD Audio and update the driver through "search on the internet for a driver".

-> this installs currently 8.65.225.0 dated 8/8/2017

-> reboot the pc

Then right click the audio icon in the taskbar (next to the clock):

-> choose the "recording devices" (yes!)

-> select the "stereo mix" device

-> enable this device (disabled by default)

-> set it as default

This seems to be working over here... even after some reboots. Good luck.

Cheers cplatteeuw, so far it has "survived" a few reboots, and seems to be working fine!
Thank you so much! Let's just hope this is a definitive solution.

cplatteeuw after a few reboots and some time up-and-running, the problem came back.
Still not a solution, but thanks for trying!

Is there any way to completely replace the audio driver with something from another company? Brand new computer and the music sounds like AM radio.
