Hp Envy 34 Curved 34-B010
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I am using my Envy 34 Curved with an external display via HDMI. I have no sound from my desktop speakers only headphones. I tried everything. Any ideas on how to get audio through desktop speakers? I even the speaker system with new speakers and still no sound. Thank You

Check to make sure the default audio output wasn't changed from the Realtek High-Definition audio to the AMD High-Definition audio which it may have done since you connected a HDMI cable to an external display.

You can change the audio output by going to the Windows control panel>hardware and sound>sound>manage audio devices.

Paul Thank you.

I am sure its not using AMD Audio. If headphones work the audio chip in not bad correct? I am going to try a fresh install and see what happens and try older version of audio drivers to see if that helps.

You're very welcome.

If the Windows control panel has the Realtek HD audio selected as the default device, then the HDMI audio switching to AMD HD audio wouldn't be the problem.

Paul,

If i do a fresh install and nothing changes, do I have a defective mother board?

Thanks

Does your PC's audio work fine when you don't have an HDMI cable plugged into another display?

In other words, does the audio work fine when you are just using the inbuilt 34" display and speakers?

If so, then it is not a motherboard issue, but probably something else.

You never did answer my question as to which device is the default audio output...Realtek or AMD?

Paul ThankYou,

My built in display is damaged so I removed it and am going through HDMI OUT and my 27 Envy AIO as my display.

Yes I am using realtek driver and if start a youtube video and disconnect the HDMI I still only have sound in headphones not speakers.

I am having other issues too. After a fresh Windows 10 install I try to install AMD Graphic Driver and it starts to install and by screen goes black and says no signal and if I restart it starts and then goes black again. I think my motherboard is bad.

Thanks Again

You're very welcome.

Under the circumstances, I agree that most likely, the audio chip on the motherboard x has failed.

Sorry one more question. There is a button on the back called HDMI  Display Mode Switch.

I never tried it. It powers on the system. I get to the HP Logo, and it stays on the logo.

If I push enter it has some info at the top of screen and at the bottom press exc for startup menu.

When I do that I get startup menu bottom right of screen and nothing else.

What is that function for and is it working wright?

Thanks

Unfortunately, that I do not know.

The product specs just indicate that button exists.

The user guide on your PC's support page does not help either.

Doing a general internet search, I came upon this:

The Display Mode button allows you to switch between different display configurations such as including the PC screen only, duplicate, extend, or second screen only.

I suggest you start a new discussion on that.
