HP ENVY Phoenix h9-1430ea Desktop PC
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

I cannot get any sound from my desktop since the machine crashed after I was moving inputs around at the back of the machine. It rebooted back up fine, no error messages except no sound, the volume icon at bottom right has a red cross despite speakers being connected and in working order.
I have run all the diagnostic tools and it finds no errors, under Device Manager it lists AMD High Definition Audio Device and says it is running properly. Under Hidden tabs is IDT High Definition Audio Codec which says "Code 45, this hardware device is not connected". I don't know if that is normal or not as it used to be what my audio software would pick up as the Line In.
I can't determine if the actual sound card is dead (the sound card is whatever came as standard with the machine) or if it's something else?
Help appreciated.

Anyone?

I've run out of options to try, is IDT supposed to be showing if a standard soundcard is fully functional?

Is it plausible for the soundcard to be "fried" and unusable, if so how can I tell if this is the case?

I should just add I have run msinfo32, under Components / Sound Device it lists "AMD High Definition Audio Device", Status::OK.

Is that the physical soundcard?

Under Problem Devices it is blank.

As per above, I don't know if this is suggesting the internal soundcard is ok and I should be looking elsewhere such as drivers or not?!
