Hello all,
I cannot get my audio to come on.
When I run msinfo32 and hit components>problem devices, I am seeing the following:
Intel(R) Smart Sound Technology (Intel(R) SST) OED INTELAUDIO\DSP_CTLR_DEV_A348&VEN_8086&DEV_0222&SUBSYS_8419103C&REV_0010\4&E616E15&0&0800
This device cannot start.
Any advice on how to fix this issue?

Welcome to the HP Support Community!
I reviewed your post and I understand that you are facing issues with the audio on your computer.
Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.
What is the Windows version you are using? (1809, 1903 or 1909)
When was the last time the audio was working fine?
Did the issue start after a Windows update?
Meanwhile, I recommend you uninstall the audio driver from the device manager and then download and install it from the below link.
Here is how it is done.
- Type "Device Manager" into the search field to open the device manager console.
- Expand the node that represents the type of device that you want to uninstall, right-click the device entry, and click Uninstall.
- On the Confirm Device Removal dialog box, click OK to start the uninstall process.
- When the uninstall process is complete, remove the device.
NOTE: On the Confirm Device Removal dialog box, click the Delete the driver software for this device option to delete the driver package that was used for the device.
Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

I had similar problems, red X on task bar. I followed the advice about deleting the device, reinstalled the device with older driver than the new one. I had the new update I believe was 1909, went back to older driver for the sound drivers. Working okay now.

Hi @lorimatt13
Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you with the audio issue.
To better assist you -
1) May I have the exact model name of the product? Refer to this document for steps to find the product details. Do not share any of your personal information such as serial, phone number, email ID, etc.
2) What's the operating system installed on the computer?
While you respond to that, I'd suggest you try updating the computer -
Step 1 Windows Updates troubleshooter -
Click on this link to run Windows Updates troubleshooter.
Step 2 Windows Updates -
1) In the search box, type and open Windows Updates.
2) Check for updates.
3) If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.
Step 3 HP Support Assistant Updates -
1) In the search box, type and open HP Support Assistant.
2) Check for updates.
3) If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
Please click “Accept as Solution” if you feel my post solved your issue, it will help others find the solution.
