@emlynw,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I reviewed your post and I understand that you are facing issues with the audio driver after an Intel update.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

  • What is the product number for your computer?
  • What was the Intel update and how did you do that update?

Meanwhile, I recommend you uninstall the audio driver from the device manager (If present) and the download and install it from the below link.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

My PC details :

HP Envy AIO-27b2xx

Product name 4DV55EA#ABU

Attempts at reinstalling audio driver SP98196 did not work as after Intel driver10.23.0.2843 was updated by Microsoft the Realtek HD audio device is now showing as unconnected in device manager. Even the help desk was unable to get the drivers to reinstall. We then tried a reset to factory settings but this has made the situation even worse. I understand that HP are now seeking advice from Realtek/Microsoft. Basically my PC now has no sound devices detailed at all.
