@User032122, Welcome to the HP Support Community – it’s great to have you here!

I appreciate you taking the time to share your question. I'm more than happy to assist with this and provide a solution that works for you.

I understand you're experiencing an issue where your HP PC is not producing any sound, and the Realtek audio device appears greyed out in Device Manager with a red X on the speaker icon. Let's work through this step-by-step to resolve the issue.

Check Windows Audio Services

  1. Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
  2. Scroll down and locate Windows Audio and Windows Audio Endpoint Builder.
  3. Make sure both are Running and set to Automatic.
  4. If not, right-click each and select Start, then Properties > set Startup type to Automatic.

Re-enable the Audio Device

  1. Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
  2. Expand Sound, video and game controllers.
  3. If Realtek Audio is greyed out:
    • Right-click it and select Enable device (if available).
    • If not, right-click and choose Uninstall device.
  4. Restart your PC. Windows should automatically reinstall the driver.

Install the Latest Audio Driver

  1. Visit the official HP support page: Official HP® Support
  2. Enter your PC model number.
  3. Download and install the latest Realtek High Definition Audio Driver listed under Driver-Audio.

Alternatively, you can use HP Support Assistant to automatically detect and install the correct drivers: HP Support Assistant | HP® Support

Run the Windows Audio Troubleshooter

  1. Go to Settings > System > Sound.
  2. Click Troubleshoot under Output.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to detect and fix issues.

Optional: BIOS Audio Check

If the issue persists:

  1. Restart your PC and enter the BIOS/UEFI (usually by pressing Esc, F10, or Del during startup).
  2. Look for Integrated Peripherals or Advanced tab.
  3. Ensure Onboard Audio is Enabled.
  4. Save and exit BIOS.

I hope your issue is now resolved. If not, feel free to reply and we’ll continue helping until everything’s sorted!
