Popping sound from left speaker

[ Edited ]
Product Name: HP ENVY Curved 34-A010
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My left speaker has a popping sound intermittently.  It usually starts up after I put more demands on the processor.  I have tried the following:

1. Updated all sound drivers

2. Set the minimum processor speed to 100%

3. Lowered the fidelity to 16 bit, 48000 Hz

It has not gotten better.  Very frustrating.

Re: Popping sound from left speaker

I am writing this evening sharinbg about my experience with my Envy 34 and the popping left speaker.  A system that uses Bang and Olufusen should not ever, ever, ever, have trouble.  But it appears there is a sizeable percentage that do.

This is a  big machine.  The last thing any one wants to do is pack it up and send it back.  First of all, they have incredibly large hard drives.  Stands the reason we have an incredible amount of data on them.  Before I send anything any where I want to know I can get at all the work on this machine.  It is just a popping speaker.  Too bad it pops when idle.  I actually use my own sound system, very high tech, if not for the popping speaker when the pc is idle, it would be no big deal.  But it is.  And because of that, I am kind of figuring out a few more things about the situation than what I have read so that is what this is about.

I did a driver dump and replace and I would say there was improvement.  But not total, because the intermittent pop is still around.  What I found is, when I now play through "those" speakers, the pop is only during the quietest of passages (talking music here)  Rumors is my test record.  Right at the end of the song the pop begins, and continues till the next song starts.  If a song gets very quiet, it will pop. and intrerrupt.  So I am thinking if you just talk or something like that it will pop the whole time.  But a good solid modern rock album will only pop between songs or at the fade, not all songs fade.  So this is a new piece I think, and all you peeps that build these computers should be able to use that to get our fix.  Sometimes the best driver has never been created for  a newer pc.  Well I am not NASA, and I expect my new Tech to work perfectly.  Let's get this thing straightened out!

Awesome job on diagnosing the issue correctly and performing smart troubleshooting before posting your question on HP forums. Kudos to you on that score.

I recommend you to uninstall the audio driver and download and install the driver from the below link.

Once the driver is installed, go to device manager and update the driver. Here is how it is done.

  1.  Click Start , and enter Device Manager into the Search field.
  2. Double-click Sound, video and game controllers.
  3. Right-click the name of the audio device listed under Sound, video and game controllers.
  4. Select Update Driver Software

Once the driver is updated check if the issue is resolved.
