Powered PC speakers connect to Headphone/Microphone combo port?

Hi, I have recently set up a Pavilion 27-n101a. On the bottom I/O ports there is a Headphone/Microphone combo port.

My question is: I also have a set of nice-sounding Altec Lansing powered speakers with a subwoofer which I've had for many years, and can I connect them to this Headphone/Microphone combo port on the Pavilion, or will they damage the system?

I understand that you are looking to know if you can connect and use external speakers with your computer using a Combo port. 

Not to worry, I will be glad to assist you. 

You can surely use external speakers with your computer through the combo port. 

If for any reason you do not get any audio from the speaker, please do a right-click on the speaker icon on the taskbar. 

Select playback devices and select the speaker as the default device.
