Pavilion 590-p0050
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My sister in law has the Pavilion 590-p0050 desktop. Once entering Windows, the speaker icon shows connected/disconnected intermittently and the sound goes on and off.  Her speakers are good. She uses JAWS for Windows (as she is blind), but that is not the issue as when I turn JAWS off, the speaker icon and sound continue to be intermittent. I have been unable to spot an issue either with the Realtek audio driver, and all Windows updates are current.

@PeteC22,

I reviewed your post and I understand that sound icon connected and disconnects randomly.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

I recommend you follow the below steps and check if it helps.

  1. Go to the Control Panel (Windows + X > Control Panel).
  2. Click on Sounds.
  3. Select the Sounds tab.
  4. Search for the following events: Device connectDevice Disconnect.
  5. Select "Device connect".
  6. Click on the "Sounds" drop menu and select "None".
  7. Click on Apply.
  8. Repeat the operation for the "Device Disconnect" event.

If you continue facing the issue, then follow the below steps.

Run Audio Troubleshooter

  - Launch Troubleshooting by typing and clicking “Troubleshooting” in

     Windows search.

  - Click on "Playing Audio".

  - Follow the on-screen instructions.

Thank you for your response!  It turns out that the "problem" was that her desktop comes with a wireless keyboard (that does not have an on/off switch) and mouse.  While I utilize the mouse when I am updating her system, my sister in law prefers a different (usb) keyboard.  Turns out that the wireless keyboard was still active and this is what caused the intermittent audio!  Took the batteries out of the wireless keyboard and problem solved.
