headphone does not work

HP Recommended
hp pavilion all-in-one 27-a230
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I can hear sound from the build-in speaker of my hp pavilion desktop. However, when I pluggin my headset to the desktop, the headset does not work and the sound is still coming out from the speaker.

The headset is a working one since I plugged it in to my cell phone and it worked fine.

@akang1,

Good day! Thanks for reaching out. I read the post regarding issues with audio when a headset is connected to the audio port. I will assist you and let’s get right to it. Excellent analysis and precise diagnosis of the issue It is appreciated greatly.

Let me gather some information for better clarity to assist you correctly?

  • Did this happen after a recent power outage or surge?
  • Did it occur after a software or Windows update?

Let me keep you posted that it looks like a hardware issue as the headset works with a different device, For a start try these steps:

  • Connect a different headset to the audio port and check if that works.
  • If there is still no audio, then perform all the relevant steps from this link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c04474731 (HP PCs - Resolving Headphones and Headset Problems (Windows 😎
  • Although the steps are for Windows 8, they are relevant for Windows 10 also.
  • If the issue persists, then perform all the relevant steps from this link: https://support.microsoft.com/en-in/help/4026994/windows-fix-sound-problems (Fix sound problems) which is a Microsoft link.

  • If the issue persists, then the problem could be with the computer’s audio port. The AIO desktop needs to be repaired. I will send you a private message to assist you with the next course of action. Please check your forum private message box next to the bell notification icon on the upper right-hand corner for a private message from me for further assistance.

Good luck and keep me posted about the developments. If this helps, please mark this as Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue and give the post a Kudos for my efforts to help

Thank you and have a great day ahead. 🙂

Thank you very much for your information.

1. I have several headphones, some are 3-ping and some are 4-ping type. They are all working with my cellphone.

2. I plugged them in the headphone jack of my HP pavilion desktop and the sound still came out from the speaker.

3. However, when I pushed it in harder and wiggled the connection, then I hear off-and-on sound from the headphone and at the same time, the sound still came out from the speaker.

Apparently, the problem is the hardware connection. Questions:

1. Do you know whether HP pavilion desktop requires to use any special type of headphone?

2. Perhaps a wireless headphone (with blue tooth connection) would work. Do you know of any such headphone device?
