OMEN by HP Desktop PC - 870-245qe
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My Omen tower has three audio sockets on the rear of the case: speaker out, line-in and mic-in. It also has a socket on the top panel that has a headset (not headphone) icon.

I have a headset with a single, 4-contact (TRRS) plug. If I plug it into the rear speaker port, I get output but no input. If I plug it into the rear mic port, I get input but no output. If I plug it into the headset port on the top, I again have only output; no input device is detected.

I have confirmed the headset can provide simultaneous input and output on another device. I have installed the latest audio drivers from the relevant HP support page. I could probably get this to work by purchasing a Y-splitter and using both rear sockets, but I don't want to do that. How do I get this to work with the headset socket, as I feel it should?

@nshew Greetings from the HP Community!

It looks like this product does not support the TRRS or the headset and microphone combo plug as per the specifications mentioned here:

It only supports either a headphone or a microphone on the front port at any given time, and the port in the back i/o port is only for microphone (look number 8: Audio, as shown below)

Hence, a splitter is the only other option you can make use of, good luck!

I hope that answers your query,
