no audio from monitor

The monitor works turns on fine, but how do you get the audio to work, connected the supplied cables (HDMI)) but no sound, cannot connect a vga cable as there is no conection on the back of the pc, there is a port for the audio out, but not on the monitor.

This is very frustrating as my previous pc had audio out on the pc and audio in on my old monitor, so very easy to set up.
