The sound quit on me suddenly and this is all I get. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers and still nothing. Is it a bad sound card? Does this machine even have one? How do I crack the case and replace it? I'm not very computer literate, so I'm kind of helpless.

Thankssss!! Thank to you I could finally resolve the same problem I got just today!

I tried a lot of things like done all the updates of the HP support assistant (the multiple successive reboot for the bios update is scary!), done the windows update, uninstall/reinstall the driver from the device manager)... all without success.

Finally I find this page and try to follow your hint.

Here is a more detailed process of my recovery :

- write "Recovery Manager" in the windows search bar

- launch the "HP Recovery Manager"

- choose "reinstall driver or applications"

- check the "Realtek High-Definition (HD) Audio Driver"
- and click reinstall

- when it s finished, reboot your PC

- after rebooting the sound should have come back! (if it s the same problem)

sorry for my frenglish> hope it will also help others!
