speakers do not cut out when headphones are plugged in, they both play at the same time.

Welcome to the forum.

I am not a HP employee.

 

Toggling off speaker output when using headphones is usually a setting in the audio software that HP included with your PC.

 

The audio software could be Beats, Realtek, or Bang and Olufsen. I don't know because you have not provided a product number.
