using external microphone

Product: Pavillion All in One Desktop 24-b010

I am trying to install an external microphone on my parents Pavillion All in One Desktop. I am using a USB Port. When I have the mic plugged in the speakers do not work. We tried both Skype and Zoom, we could hear my parents (through their external mic) but they could not hear us (speaker). When I unplug the microphone the speaker works. We are using an external mic because the internal mic is inadequate, it's very difficult to hear them.

 

Bottom line question: how can I use an external mic where the mic and speakers work at the same time?
