Sadly to say: Most of the time the 24 char failure id indicates the HDD is failing and it needs to be replaced. Is it still under warranry ? If Yes, please call HP for a replacement.

In the US:

or HP technical support: 800-474-6836. If you live outside the US/Canada Region please click the link below to get the support number for your region.

Since your machine previously ran Windows 10, you can do a clean install W10 for free by using the media creation tool at the link below.

  https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

The tool will allow you to make a bootable installation media (USB/DVD) and you can use installation media to install.

During the installation process if you are asked to enter a product key, check the 'Skip' box and W10 will install and then automatically activate once you are connected to the internet using the key embedded in BIOS of your machine.

Then you can install the drivers and available software you need from your PC's support page.

You can use standard 2.5" HDD for laptop which is available from many good computer shops.

Regards.

Thanks for the reply but unfortunately the desktop is not under warranty.

Contacted Sandisk for possible replacemnts and they suggested Z400s mSATA - SD8SFAT-064G-1122 and SD8SFAT-128G-1122 but suggested contacting HP to see if they would compatable replacements as they have more memory than current SSD drive.

This is where I'm at now.

The following specs does not say anything about it the old disk:

   https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c04451244

Looked like it was a cache disk with only 16GB. The new one with 64GB, physically may not fit. Your link from SanDisk does not show physical length.

Please check with SanDisk and ask them the new one has SAME length with the old one. If same length, it should be compatible.

Regards.
