260 G1 DM USFF PC - SSD has 'disappeared' following BIOS update.

I recently got an HP 260 G1 off of ebay and it was working great, except the fan is always at max. In the bios it only reported the rpm of the fan and you could not alter it, so I thought there must be a bios upgrade to fix it.

So I downloaded the latest bios for this pc and upgraded it, but after booting it would not find the hard drive at all.

Fortunately it was still able to boot from usb. I tried connection the hard drive to a usb adapter and it did boot, but it would not boot all the way to windows and would come up with an error.

I thought I was stuffed and had bricked my pc, but I eventually came up with a solution.

I downloaded an older version of the bios onto another pc and copied the files onto a usb stick.

I then made a windows 10 installation usb stick and booted the pc from that but instead of doing a fresh install I went to the menu for troubleshooting and then to the command prompt. I cd'd to the usb stick (D:)  (ie: cd d:) with the older bios version and there is a file called flash.bat that you simply type at the command prompt; D:> flash.bat and press enter. It then re-flashed the bios and rebooted and low and behold the hard drive was recognized and it booted back up into windows.

So now I will just put up with the loud fan noise.
