after downloading the bios file (tried many versions) and rebooting to update the bios, once in the update process it says it can't open the bios file.
My board version is 8433 my current bios version is vF.10 and this is the link where I can find all the bios versions specific for my motherboard:
https://support.hp.com/it-it/drivers/selfservice/swdetails/hp-pavilion-desktop-pc-590-p0000a/1939050...
any hint?
thank u

Just for information, I most often dis-advise not to insist..
see to start this, the solution probably exists

Sometimes, I did not understand well if finally you tried, it is better to use an update closer to the one in place, if present, and there is what it takes

I insist, attention it is a risk of completely damaging the computer!
if yours works fine as it is, and you don't need a particular correction, mentioned in the update, then avoid!

I found a BIOS for the model posted. It is not as new as the one you posted, but here it is
Since the version present on there now is vF.10, that still is a big jump. On the download page you posted, if you click on the previous version tab, there is a listing all the way down to vF.10. Since that list is not in a language I can read, look it over to see if there is a reason (such as having to install a particular version on that list before you can install a more recent/current version)
Sometimes with that big of a jump, there is a prerequisite before upgrading all the way. Or try the version I posted to at least get part way to the newer one.

thank u for the answer.
I've already tried all the old versions (actually I couldnt even try to install the last -august 22 - one, then I tried the april 22 one, and then started back from the first newer than what I have on my machine.. no way.. the error is always the same: cannot open the file).

It is possible you do not have permission to install the file from the folder it was installed into.
Normally, after downloading sp141607 is installed into "SWSetup"
Click "change" and allow it to install somewhere else such as the original download folder, usually
c:\users\YOURNAME\downloads

Actually, something I dont really undestand, is why the bios appearing to be correct according to the "check hardware" tool is only the v41, even if most recent firmware are related to the same board. By the way, that version neither is actually working

I tend to agree with @Prométhée
BIOS can be the death of a motherboard and if it is working, be happy and leave it. In other terms, if it ain't broke, do not fix it.

after maybe 120 attempts and various software installations, I managed to solve the problem installing HP PC HARDWARE DIAGNOSTICS as suggested here (that wasnt either easy to find, actually). After doing that, the normal process suggested by the support site worked as expected.
Now, eventually, with the new bios, the board is able to find my 2.5gbit ethernet card (but only if connected to the 16x slot, not working actually on the 1x slot even if the plug is the 1x one).

I had the same problem with a USB3 adapter. It only worked in the x16 slot.
Can you provide the url for the ethernet adapter you managed to get to work? I am curious what the chipset on the adapter is.
Thanks!
