HP ENVY Desktop - TE01-0034
Microsoft Windows 11

Computer is an HP Envy Desktop, TE01-0034

I have this USB charger, I was charging a AA battery, and had it plugged in to my HP Envy desktop USB port. I've been doing this for months with no issue, but the charger shorted out (confirmed by later plugging it in to wall charger, and seeing it's screen say the battery was half charged, to fully charged, to a dead screen, and back again within seconds, whenever I touched it or moved the cable) I went to check on the battery to find the computer was turned off. When I tried to turn it on,  the light on the front wouldn't come on, nothing. I've tried leaving it to sit unplugged, or plugged in, before turning it on, still nothing.

I pulled the power supply connections off, and checked the voltage at both 4 wire connectors, while shorting the green and grey ones, got 12.2 V with a multimeter, so that seems fine, it says it should be 12.1 V on the power supply label. I've heard a power supply could show good voltage but not perform under load, not sure how to safely check for that?

Does this mean my motherboard is dead, or is there anything else that it could be?

Thank you in advance!!!!

Jared

Hi @RejectedWitness

Welcome to the HP Support Community. Thanks for bringing this to our notice.

I see that you are facing battery-related issues on your system. Do not worry, we are here to fix it.

May I know from when are you facing this issue?

Did you make any hardware or software-related changes to it?

May I know if you are using HP genuine AC adapter?

Do you see any lights on the system when you connect the adapter?

Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds and check if the issue persists.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Thank you for your reply!!

But you may want to read my post a little closer, I'm not having a problem with the computer's battery; it's a desktop computer, not a laptop. I was trying to charge some Energizer AA batteries off of the USB port on my desktop, and that charger shorted out, and wrecked my computer.

To answer your questions:

I made no hardware or software changes,

there are no lights coming on anywhere on the system,

It is the stock HP PSU,

and I have already tried pressing and holding the power button for 30 seconds.

Thanks for your help!
