HP Compaq Elite Ultra Silm 8300
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi folks,

I'm more or less in the same dilemma as the guy in this thread and have been trying to follow the steps suggestions from the expert to the tee.

https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Boot-and-Lockup/BIOS-update-HP-Compaq-Elite-8300-Ultra-slim-PC...

I had started with upgrading bios from v2.9 and now am at v3.03 (probably would have updated to v3.04 by the time this thread would get any traction). I think I need to go further to upgrade to v3.08 but here are my issues:

1. One of the links as mentioned in one of the replies in this thread is opening without any resources and has message saying as below and I have no clue or means to access to revision history sections to retrieve what at all bios versions are available for download. Can someone please help me with those versions?

We're sorry

We apologize for any inconvenience. Please check back later.

2. The exact purpose of this bios upgrade exercise is to make the system to be able to recognize and pick up the Kubuntu 20.04 LTS bootable media (USB & a DVD) and let me install the OS from them. But I've been unable to do so, thus far, therefore resorted to this exercise. If Someone has a better solution to my problem, in these given circumstances, then please suggest those steps. Im all ears!

Thank you.

Thanks Paul.

By v3.07, the bios had started identifying the usb resource in UEFI so I was good with the OS install then, but did deploy v3.08  to keep it latest and up-to-date (while I had windows OS available).

Question - Would I still be able to deploy from within Linux should another version come around? Could you please point me to such a resource?

Thanks

You're very welcome.

Unfortunately I do not know of any resource where you can update the BIOS in Linux.

As long as you have access to a Windows PC, you can always run any potential BIOS update file on that PC and put the DOS files on a USB flash drive to update the BIOS using the F10 BIOS flashing setup method.

You can update the BIOS that way even if you didn't have a hard drive installed.
