BIOS Update

Pavillion P7
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I am trying to install a gtx 1060 graphics card on my computer but it is consistently getting stuck on the first hp screen and then just freezes.  I researched it and saw that it could be a bios incompatibility and someone mentioned that updating the bios to version 8 might fix the problem however the update does not appear on the hp website.

BIOS Update

Hi,

Please post the HP product number for your PC. How to Find the HP Model Number and the HP Product Number or let HP automatically find your PC model number and HP network attached printers. This will allow others to review your issue, make suggestions and review your responses. This is usually the best way to get assistance.

We need to know the exact product number as some "p7" models have a version 8 BIOS available and others don't.

BIOS Update

Hi,

Good news and bad news.

The good news.

There is a version 8 BIOS available for your PC under this model that has the same motherboard.  The installer should work under Windows 10.

The bad news.

The NVIDIA GTX 1060 needs a 400+ watt power supply (PSU).  I suggest that you use a 500 watt PSU.

Computer Does Not Start After Installing a Video Card (Windows 8,10)  Important when using a version 8 or higher BIOS.

BIOS Update

Thank you for this information. I will try the version 8.18.  Lucky I have already upgraded the PSU to a 750watt so there should be plenty of power.

Thanks Again. I will post results.
