Blank screen

HP ENVY 700-014eb
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

On my HP ENVY 700-014eb desktop I get a blank (black) screen on power up.  I have power to both desktop and monitor (HP x2401). The monitor and HDMI cable seem to be fine as they work with another computer. The desktop seems to be functioning as I can see the hard drive activity lights flashing and wireless indicator light on.  I see the HP logo on initial start up but then the screen goes blank. Although the screen is blank I still see the mouse cursor and, strangely, I occasionally see a message from my antivirus program on the screen but nothing else. Also I can access the BIOS screen on start up (F10).  I've tried a hard restart as well.

Any suggestions? Thanks

Blank screen

Hi @JPXL92,

Welcome to HP Forums,

This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips,

Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out 🙂

As I understand, desktop boots to blank screen after HP Logo with just the cursor on the display.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

When was the last time it worked fine?

Did you make any recent hardware/software changes?

Let's try these steps:

Step 1: Perform "Recovering the BIOS using key press combination" from the link.

Step 2: Try steps mentioned below from the link

Step 2: Perform a hard reset

Step 4: Run Hardware Diagnostics tests

Step 5: Check whether the hard drive is detected in BIOS

Let me know how this goes!

I hope you have a good day ahead,

And feel free to ask any other queries as well,

Considering, this forum has some of the best people in the world available and ready to help.

Blank screen

Figured it out. Probably due to Windows 10 latest update. Booted in Safe Mode and un-installed then re-installed video  driver. All okay
