I know this subject "Booting to NVMe ON Z820 HP"  has already been open and close. I was looking for up to date NVMe ssd drives and adapter. I'm Looking to buy Samsug 980 ssd 250gb PCie 3.0x4 and M.2 NVME to PCIe 3.0 x4 Adapter with Aluminum Heatsink SolutionM.2 NVME to PCIe 3.0 x4 Adapter. Hi

The general rule thumb is: the MB needs to have native M.2 support (M.2 socket on the MB with BIOS support and CPU or chipset support) to boot to a M.2 storage device. Are you using the latest BIOS for your MB? You can use the 980 as a data drive if your MB does not support the boot option.

Check the HP Forum Business PCs and Workstations board https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Workstations-and-Point-of-Sale-Systems/bd-p/Business-PC-W...

Check this specific link for more details https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Workstations-and-Point-of-Sale-Systems/Booting-to-NVMe-ON... Read all posts. The official solution is not what it appears to be.

Or post your question there for better assistance. Someone in this board may have a work around.
