CONFUSION ABOUT HDD CABLES
06-03-2018 01:58 PM

The confusion about the cables is the difference between serial ATA drive and IDE drive. I was sure my old drive had IDE. I'm new at this. What can I do now?

Hi
If I understand correctly...
IDE is/was 40 pins (http://pinouts.ru/HD/AtaInternal_pinout.shtml)
SATA is 7
SATA pinout diagram
Pin Name Function
1 | GND | Ground |
2 | A+ | Transmit+ |
3 | A- | Transmit- |
4 | GND | Ground |
5 | B- | Receive- |
6 | B+ | Receive+ |
7 | GND | Ground |
So they are not interchangeable.
But adapters may be available.
