@MsPoetess -- three possibilities:

 

  1. the "data" and the "power" cables are not properly connected to the disk-drive;
  2. the "data" cable is not properly connected to the motherboard;
  3. the disk-drive has "failed" -- it is not responding to queries from the motherboard.
