Can't enable legacy boot in BIOS

Product Name: HP P2-1310
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8 (64-bit)

My hard disk is broken but the computer can't boot from my new replacement hard drive.  I have checked the Bios setting and the legacy boot option is locked.  I disabled secure boot but it still doesn't allow  me to enable legacy boot.  I downloaded the updated BIOS .exe (sp70481.exe) file from HP website but I am not sure if I can flash the BIOS using that file.  Is there anyway that I can enable the legacy boot option so that I can boot from my hard disk?  I appreicate any advise and suggestion.  Thank you.

Re: Can't enable legacy boot in BIOS

Hi, Are you able to make any other BIOS changes?

Re: Can't enable legacy boot in BIOS

I think the only problem is that I can't enable Legacy boot.  The legacy boot in the boot order list is greyed out and I was asked to disable secure boot when I tried to enable it.  I then went to secure boot to disabled it, quited and save the setting and reboot again.  I double checked that the secure boot mode is disabled in BIOS but I still can't enable legacy boot and the system still ask me to disable secire boot first.   My PC model is P2-1310 and the motherboard model is APXD1-DM.

Hi,

Open up the command prompt (admin) and enter the following:  MSINFO32

Please Post an image of the first 24 columns of the system summary.

Thanks.

Re: Can't enable legacy boot in BIOS

How do I open command prompt  if I can't boot into windows?  I have tried to boot from usb hard drive but it's still say there is no bootable device detected.

Re: Can't enable legacy boot in BIOS

Hi,

Go to the MS site and learn how to build a Windows to go USB flash drive.  You'll have to build it on a send PC.
