Desktop drivers failed

HP Recommended
Pavilion23
Microsoft Windows XP

Desktop drivers no longer respond. Unable to log into computer via wireless keyboard and mouse. It's literally locked on the home screen. How do issue commands to the desktop if it no longer  recognizes the keyboard and mouse? Please help.

Turn the computer off.

Find/borrow a compatible "wired" keyboard and a "wired" mouse.

Connect them to the computer.

Turn the computer on.

Use those devices to "trouble-shoot" your problem with Windows XP.

How old are the batteries inside the keyboard & mouse ?

@mdklassen, did not work. All USB ports are down. Desktop boots without a problem. However, I still can not get pass the "lock screen." An HP tech advised me to take it to a HP store. Why? how are they able to bypass u responsive USB ports?
