My computer is an HP ENVY Phoenix Desktop - 860-180st CTO, it has an HP 2B4B v1.04 motherboard; The BIOS is AMI AO.59. It is ~5 years old and is out of warranty. I did an admittedly stupid thing, set the BIOS/CMOS password and forgot it - and on top of that, failed the PWD three times. I have pulled the CMOS battery out, and it DID reset the BIOS: I can no longer run my virtual machines (Virtualization in now disabled), and I had to reset my Windows account PIN. I also set the CMOS PWD Reset jumpers. The CMOS password is still there.
I have looked and looked I cannot seem to find a replacement motherboard.
So, replacing the motherboard (new BIOS) does not appear to be an option.
I see tools online such as AMIDebug that can access/modify the BIOS/CMOS.... so I believe there ARE tools that CAN reset/clear the CMOS password. But I cannot find a copy to purchase or download to use.
Can someone/anyone tell me if I have ANY other options for resetting/clearing the CMOS/BIOS password?? Or do I need to throw this HP computer in the trash - and NEVER EVER buy an HP product again - because they have made a situation that cannot be recovered from?? I am VERY close to just ordering a Dell, just checking to see if I have missed anything here,
