Envy desktop crashes after power outage

My trusty HP Envy h8-1413c desktop  has crashed after a local power outage. When I attempt to boot it up a message states that Preparing Automatic Repair. And Diagnosing PC. And then Repairing disc errors. I have tried this numerous times and nothing happens. I did some research and downloaded Window Recovery Tool to a flash drive but I am unable for the computer to boot. Is there some sequence when booting to recognize the flash drive? If the hard drive is no longer usable is there a SSD solid state that is a direct plug in replacement as this is a i7 with 16 gB of RAM. Any help for this Senior Citizen will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

@SRX14, welcome to the forum.

 

It is very likely that the power supply unit (PSU) or motherboard may have been damaged if you aren't using a Surge Protector.  I suggest that you test your PSU and check the capacitors on the motherboard to assure they are not bulging.  You can test the memory to assure that it hasn't been damaged, also.  This can be done by removing all of the sticks and replacing them one at a time and booting.  The single stick should be installed in the socket closest to the processor, Socket #1.

I was using a APC SurgeArrest at the time the power went out. This is the first problem I have ever had with this computer. I think it took out the boot up section of the hard drive, but I don't know how to boot it up with the Windows 10 recovery tool uploaded to a flash drive. HP must have some boot sequence with a flash drive that I haven't discovered.

I am not certain that you have the option to boot from a USB drive in the BIOS.  You can check by tapping the Esc key once per second when the computer begins to boot.  Then, choose F10 to go to the BIOS setup utility.  Once there check each Tab to see if you can find this option.
