Fan used to spin up loud at startup, or when waking from sleep, but no longer does

HP 580-137c
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi all,

Subject line says it all - machine is a 580-137c, purchased at Costco. I bought it a couple of weeks ago, and up to this point (today), each time I've either woken it from sleep or turned it on, the fan has spun up _loudly_ for about 4 seconds.

Not today - now, whether from power up or wake from sleep, it no longer spins any fan loudly, and that's disturbing me, because it makes me think that it's not going through some checklist/test that it used to.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

John

Hello, @BobMakesPancake – Hope you are well 🙂

Allow me to welcome to HP Support Forums! It is a great platform to get help from the community, get suggestions and find what has worked for others!

Going through your post, I understand that the PC fan is not making the usual noise while on startup and it is concerning you.

Do not worry, this is not an issue with the PC. The fan is used to cool down the CPU and most of the times, you will not even hear the fan spinning. It could be possible that some of the Windows updates helped reduce the fan noise.

Also, the fan speed has nothing to do with the PC performance. You only need to worry about the fan not working if the PC is heating up and is shutting down. You might also get a message saying the “fan is not running at the optimum speed”. If the PC is not heating up, and if you are not getting any error messages that means the fan is doing its job and all is well 🙂

Let me know if that helps!

Good luck 🙂
