HP Pavillion All-in-one q108a
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)
I received an update notification for the AMD Driver, so hit install and chose express install. Once installed it asked to restart to complete, i did this. When I unlocked the pc the home screen started flashing from normal to black and back again. I have been able to use task manager to end task the windows explorer process which results in a total black screen - no flashing. This appears to be the only process I can stop that gets any sort of result...

I dont know what to do next as I am unable to access the pc or even start in safe mode to uninstall anything.

Need help please!!

Hi @MrOzaLot,

Good Day. Thank you for posting in the HP community. 🙂 I reviewed the post regarding graphic driver issues and screen flashing issues after an AMD display driver update.I will be delighted to assist you here. 🙂

Fabulous description and superb diagnosis of the issue before posting. Kudos to you for that. 🙂 You are a valued HP customer and it is paramount to assist you with it. I take it as a privilege to share this platform with you. 🙂

  • Did you try to use task manager and get into device manager to uninstall the display drivers?
  • Does the screen flash in the bios?

For now please use task manager and try going to device manager.

If you are successful in doing this, then uninstall the display drivers from device manager. Steps:

  • Right-Click on start button> click device manager> expand display adapters>then select the display drivers that are listed and right-click on it and uninstall the drivers.
  • Check the box that states delete the software for this device.
  • Restart your computer and then reinstall it from recovery manager. Please click here to do it.

  • If this does not work, please perform a system restore to an earlier time before the issue started from this link and follow the option "Restore your computer when Windows cannot start normally "
  • If this does not help, the only option is to perform a system recovery to factory settings from here  and follow the option "Recovery using HP Recovery Manager "

Hope this helps. Let me know how this goes. I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great.

To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles.

Take care now and have a terrific week ahead. 🙂
