HP Pavilion 23.8 inch All-in-One Desktop PC 24-k1000i (1T5M0AV)

After the latest HP Bios update in August 2024, at random times during the day, the computer freezes up and the mouse & keyboard are not operational. I have to turn the computer off each and every time and then turn it back on. This resolves the problem but is annoying.

Hi @Jdrhook,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your computer is freezing and becoming unresponsive after a BIOS update from HP in August 2024, here’s a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

1. Verify BIOS Update and Compatibility

Check BIOS Version:

  • Access BIOS: Restart your computer and enter the BIOS/UEFI setup by pressing the designated key (usually F2, F10, F12, or Delete).
  • Note Version: Check the BIOS version and compare it with the version released in August 2024.

Verify System Compatibility:

  • Check Compatibility: Ensure that the BIOS update is compatible with your specific model. Review the release notes provided by HP for the August 2024 update.

2. Update Drivers

Update Device Drivers:

  • Device Manager: Open Device Manager (press Win + X and select Device Manager).
  • Update Drivers: Check for updates for critical drivers such as graphics, chipset, and network drivers. Right-click each device and select Update driver.

Download Latest Drivers:

  • HP Support Website: Visit the HP Support website and download the latest drivers for your hardware.

3. Check for Software Conflicts

Boot into Safe Mode:

  • Restart: Restart your computer and boot into Safe Mode (press Shift while selecting Restart, then choose Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings > Restart, and select Safe Mode).
  • Check Stability: See if the system freezes in Safe Mode. If not, the issue might be related to software conflicts.

Uninstall Recent Software:

  • Review Changes: Uninstall any recently installed software or updates that might be causing conflicts.

4. Reset BIOS Settings

Reset BIOS to Default:

  • Enter BIOS/UEFI: Restart and enter the BIOS/UEFI setup.
  • Restore Defaults: Look for an option to restore default settings (often found under Exit or Save & Exit menu) and apply the changes.

Save and Exit:

  • Confirm Changes: Save the changes and exit BIOS. Restart the computer and check if the issue persists.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
