For a laptop of that age, there is probably going to be numerous items that need attention.  The overheating is probably due to dust and dirt inside.  The laptop needs to be opened and all the dust blown out.  On a unit that old, it should be fairly easy to do that.

Next thing to consider would be that hard drive.  Being of that age, it is beyond the expected life and needs to be replaced.

Last is the RAM.  RAM normally does not wear out.  It just fails.  If there is a memory problem, it can be found by testing.

The Compaq 2500 is a series and there is more to the model number.  If you can post the specs it would be helpful and if it has a CD/DVD drive or not.

Thank you for your response.

Ill try clean up the dust inside, also the HDD is IDE so i have to replace it with an new one. Two rams located inside so ive found out that 1 is faulty.. Thank you once again.

Finding a new IDE drive might be tricky.  Most HDD's now are SATA and there is not room for an adapter in a laptop.  But there might be a warranted IDE still available from someone. Here is a link to Newegg (a trusted vendor) that shows some to be available.

The max amount of RAM that laptop would support is 1GB and the memory should be replaced with matching pairs, so 512MB per module is the max

Good luck on the adventure.  Let us know how the project proceeds.

Here is a troubleshooting guide to possibly find those problems.
